Autumn 2026
Hello and welcome to Sparrowhawk Class!
I am really looking forward to the term ahead and, most importantly, getting to know each and every one of the children in our class. Every child is unique, with their own interests, talents, ideas and wonderful personality, and I am excited to discover what makes each of them special.
This term we have lots of exciting learning planned and we will be doing lots of learning through our Continuous Provision.
A few of our learning 'highlights' are...
We will be starting our writing this term with the book 'The Girl at the Front of the Class' moving onto 'King Lion'. Alongside this we will be continuing our phonics and early reading journey with Essential Letters and Sounds. The children will be bringing home spellings each week. We do not 'test' these spellings, instead they are an opportunity to apply sounds we have learnt to words whilst also building a bank of harder to read and spell words.
In Maths we are exploring numbers to 10 initially (developing to 20) focussing on number order, place value, addition and subtraction and pattern in number.
In History we will be learning about The Great fire of London and have an exciting trip to Weaver Hall planned for November.
In Geography we will be learning about our world and where we live in it. We will be be learning the names and locations of the 7 continents and 5 oceans.
In Art we will be developing our drawing skills and creating self portraits using the work of Oliver Jeffers as a stimulus. In DT we will be making puppets, using our making and developing skills.
In Science we will be learning about materials. exploring what things are made of, what the properties of different materials are and identifying different materials.
Together, we will learn, explore, create and have lots of fun as we grow in confidence and independence. I am looking forward to seeing the children flourish, celebrate their successes and make lots of happy memories along the way!
