Owl Class Blog

Hello! Miss Fray here.

What an amazing start to our new year in Owl class! We’ve been having the absolute best time for the past couple of weeks and so I wanted to share some of our fun with you.

I will be blogging every Wednesday, letting you know any important bits and bobs, as well as sharing pictures, awesome work and just us lot having a lovely time really!

In Maths we have been reading, making, writing and having fun with numbers! Already, Owls have proven their mathematical minds and aren’t afraid to tackle problems. I keep reminding the children that maths isn’t just about getting the right answer…it’s the brilliant thinking, questioning and problem solving that is the most important bit!

We have been writing our own ‘Guide to living on Planet Earth’ in English this week. We’ve been making sure all of our capital letters and full stops are where they should be, we have been using 'and' to bring our ideas together and we have even been describing nouns using adjectives! This is why we all feel so tired!

We have also included our super exciting geography learning in the guides. I set the children the challenge of telling you the 7 continents of the world, the 4 countries of the United Kingdom and EVEN the 4 capital cities! Hopefully you have heard the song too!

Today we collaged our guides and copied up our writing in neat…we will have to finish them off next week, but here is a sneak peek.

We got arty whilst enjoying the sunshine and sketched each other. Afterwards, we all said something we liked about the person we had sketched. It was such a lovely activity and everyone had big smiles hearing such lovely words!

In our class we have lots of different areas that the children have already been getting to know. I will be introducing lots more specific challenges into these areas over the coming weeks and am already so excited  to see the independent, creative learners we have in Owl class. The absolute favourite area so far has to be the Imagination Station. With lots of natural, open ended resources, the children have created all sorts of exciting things. This was a city with an entire story to go with it.

Finally, I just wanted to say that I am just having the absolute best time being (half of) your children’s teacher. They are just brilliant and I cannot wait to see where their imagination, learning and creativity takes us over the next year! What a team we have!

I know things are tricky with new school procedures. I really am trying to get to know all of your faces as best I can from the brief hello at the gate. I have updated our Owl class section on the website, so all of the important information about our class is on there and I will update it as and when things change. I will also let you know on here about any weekly bits and bobs or changes. But please don’t hesitate to get in touch with school if you do have any worries, questions or thoughts that you want to share.

Your children really are brilliant! Here’s to a lovely year!
